News from the Past Week

There’s been a lot of news over the last week related to shopping comparison engines:

  • AOL.com relaunched without the barriers to entry and Shopping (inStore) is highlighted on the left nav bar
  • The WSJ wrote a piece about eBay sellers moving beyond eBay
  • The Economist’s feature story (subscription required) last week talked about eBay’s 10th anniversary and while the article didn’t focus on the Shopping.com acquisition, understanding eBay provides some insight into what an eBay owned Shopping.com might look like
  • Internet Retailer came out with a piece saying that 51% of online adults use search engines for shopping
  • Chitika launched eMiniMalls, a fairly comprehensive comparison shopping experience within the confines of an interactive ad
  • Google announced plans of an online payment system to compete with eBay’s PayPal and many there are obvious synergies between such an program and Google’s Froogle.
