One Response to What Happened at Shop.org FirstLook 2006?
As an exhibitor I did not get to many of the sessions. However I participated in a number of datafeed roundtables. Two quick thoughts:
First, Taxonomy is a problem that will never solved because it will never be standardized. Large retailers want to maintain control of how they categorize their products.
Second, most merchants are having difficulty generating content (product titles and descriptions) that appeals to consumers both from a creative writing standpoint while at that same time being relavant to search. Ex: your copy team may think “winterberry trousers” is appealing to consumers, but from a search engine (general or shopping) perspective it will not rank high for a search on “blue pants.”
Other than that e-commerce continues to be a key driver for major retailers and they are garnering more and more recognition internally, which is critical for ad budget allocation.
