Weekend Randomness

-Check out David Beach’s blog. David is a Sr. Product Manager at Yahoo! Shopping. His blog covers music, shopping, search, and the many conferences he attends (he’s at SXSW right now)…and that randomness is part of his charm. David made two posts related to the shopping comparison engine world last week. First, he talked about tagging products (on Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon). Second, he talked about using the new Y! Shopping APIs to create a marketplace which accepts Linden Dollars. He might have been kidding, but I suspect a shopping comparison engine for Second Life is a great idea!

On another note, does anyone know a good publication about unbundling media? And no, unbundlingmedia.com has no content on it…I should know, it’s my domain. In particular, I’m fascinated by NBC, Disney, and News Corp’s slow, but steady move into Media 2.0. In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, events at NBC Universal are a perfect example of an old school media company trying to grok the land beyond TV. NBC took it’s popular Lazy Sunday video off of YouTube. The company then set up a section called something like Viral Videos on NBC – smart, huh?!? I’m sure that calling a video viral is really going to encourage people to spread the word! Vindication came as the company released the pilot of Conviction for free on iTunes (they did something similar with The Office on MySpace a while back). Now NBC has enabled ‘Send to a Friend’ clips on NBC…but something is still off a bit…it’s like they don’t even know about IMing. By the way, if you haven’t seen it, Natalie Portman’s Day in the Life rap is hilarious! Can someone point me to quality commentary (PaidContent covers the basics, but I’m looking for something deeper) on Media 2.0?
