Scripps Buys uSwitch for $366m

EW Scripps buys uSwitch.com

Looks like EW Scripps sees the future, and it’s not in Media 1.0, it’s in comparison shopping and lead generation. Following up on last years acquisition of Shopzilla, Scripps purchased UK based uSwitch.com, a comparison shopping service for Gas, Credit Cards, Loans, Digital TV Service, and more. uSwitch also owns UpMyStreet.com, a local services directory.

Read the press release. uSwitch.com is expected to “generate approximately $10 million to $15 million in segment profit on revenue of $40 million to $45 million . Revenue last year was $25 million.”

uSwitch put itself on the market in January.

Maybe NexTag had it right all along combining mortgage, online education, and car buying lead generation services with a traditional shopping comparison engine and travel search engine. Experian Interactive is putting those pieces together with LowerMyBills, ClassesUSA, and PriceGrabber. EW Scripps looks like it’s making the same moves.
