Not surprisingly, Froogle is the most searched for shopping comparison engine on Google according to Google Trends. Since it wasn’t even a fair fight (serisously, Froogle kicked ass), I only included Shopping.com, Shopzilla, PriceGrabber, NexTag, and Yahoo! Shopping below.

Notes:
-Check out the incredible growth Shopzilla had over the holiday season. Looks like leveraging the Scripps network (TV and print advertising) can provide a boost in search performance.
-Check out the searches for PriceGrabber. Wow!
-Just like ComScore, Netratings, and http://inventory.overture.com data, take Google Trends with a grain of salt. It’s one peice of the traffic puzzle.

how come you do not have Froogle in the graph? Also:
1) how do you enter Yahoo shopping? shopping.yahoo.com does not work, but I did try ["yahoo shopping", yahoo shopping] and it came back with different results for both.
2) You entered [shopping.com, shopzilla, pricegrabber, nextag, yahoo shopping] but if you add ‘.com’ to the other sites (except yahoo shopping b/c it does not work) as [shopping.com, shopzilla.com, pricegrabber.com, nextag.com, yahoo shopping] you get diff’t results too. any ideas?
What do you mean by “not surprisingly Froogle is the most searched for…”? Froogle isn’t the market leader.
paul – i didn’t include froogle because i could only include 5 comparison enignes and as i said in the opening paragraph of the post, froogle was way ahead of the others…so much so that it made the graph difficult to understand. if you want a graph of just froogle & froogle.com, click here.
as for yahoo shopping, i entered just that, yahoo shopping…but your point is well taken. that’s why i said take this information with a grain of salt and only as part of a larger picture. for instance, just including shopping.com is incorrect as shopping.com is also made up of dealtime, epinions, pricetool, etc. as for shopzilla, to be complete, i need shopzilla.com and bizrate…same thing for nextag and on and on and on.
nick – very true that froogle isn’t the market leader. i just assumed (without thinking about it that much) that because froogle is a google service more people would be searching for froogle on google than for any other shopping comparison engine. maybe that’s completely faulty logic.
Actually Brian, I have a totally different view. Its not suprising to me at all the Froogle is at the top of the list on Google on the search charts for a variety or reasons:
1. Its free, the favorite internet buzzword:)
2. There is more documentation on how to optimize a Froogle data feed than probably any other shopping comparison site.
3. With all the affiliate marketers out there that believe they can make zillions of dollars online, the fact that its free it makes it the prime choice of the broke hearted! LOL
As far as market share goes, it’s certainly true that they aren’t the biggest, however they have gained considerable market share in recent years. Its free, but will it last? Only time will tell:)
BTW- keep up the great work on your blog.
Sincerely,
Christian
good points brian
i hear you on [froogle.com, froogle]. even that is a discrepency
just as an FYI (you probably did this already, but for the other CE fans), i tried:
[epinions.com, epinions]: returned extreme results
[pricetool.com, pricetool]: no results for either
[dealtime, dealtime.com]: no results for dealtime.com
[epinions, epinions.com]: returned extreme results
