Yahoo! Shopping Blog, Become’s Pocket Change

Clearly I missed some shopping comparison engine blogs. See comments.

“We’ll highlight new and interesting products, sales, deals, and coupons. Plus we’ll have features about what other Yahoo! Shopping users find interesting like top reviewed and most popular products, hot pick lists and more.”

Seems like the Inner Blogger post was timed pretty well. At Internet Retailer today, Chris Saito announced the launch of the Yahoo! Shopping Blog (no wonder Beach liked my post!).

Chris filled me in this morning, saying that the blog is a great way to merchandise products, drive engagement (once people read, they will subscribe through rss, builds loyalty, etc.), and drive transactions. The blog will get more promotion on the site over time. There will be 4-5 people contributing (David Beach and Joe Lazarus each have a post up right now).

In the inaugural post, Beach explained “The Yahoo! Shopping Blog does not allow advertisers or sponsors to influence editorial decisions in the creation of blog posts. We just like to find good things so you can find them too.” Promising start…no Mugatu, but it will be fun to watch the blog develop.

As for other shopping comparison engine blogs, Become started Pocket Change about 2 months ago.

So who’s next? Shopzilla? PriceGrabber? Smarter? Shopping? Will anyone roll-up some of the better shopping blogs that already have solid organic traffic?

mySimon has had a Shopping blog for a long time now. It’s directly integrated in the front door (as “Shopping Picks”) and is also on this page:

Shoptoit.ca has had a blog up for a few months as well. In the spirit of comparison shopping it likes to compare competing products as well as give top pick lists, product reviews and more.

I’m ShopLocal’s resident blogger. Our blog just went live, so I thought I’d throw my hat into the ring. Tell me what you think.
