Chutes and Ladders

Chutes & Ladders will highlight management changes at the shopping search and shopping comparison engines, as well as some major etailers. Please send tips to ‘brian at comparisonengines.com’.

I’m stealing the title ‘Chutes & Ladders’ from Hasbro (the game of rewards and consequences) as well as my friends at FierceMarkets, the powerhouse publishers of FierceWireless, FierceBiotech, FierceIPTV, and 13 other industry email newsletters and blogs.

PriceGrabber made a number of changes in May (yes, I’m playing catch up)…
-Ron LaPierre
Ron has long run the BizDev efforts at PriceGrabber, but was recently promoted to COO. In his new role, Ron will be “responsible for directing PriceGrabber.com’s sales, business development, marketing, technology, human resources and content development operations.”

-Mike Wilson
Replacing Ron as VP of BizDev is Mike Wilson, joining PriceGrabber from InfoSpace, where he served as the Director of BizDev. BizDev is an extremely high profile position at PriceGrabber as the company has done an incredible job building a large network of partners, reducing dependence on the PPC engines for traffic.

-Sean Kane & Graham Jones
Sean has been promoted to VP of Entertainment & Technology and Graham has been promoted to VP of Home & Personal. While both Sean and Graham deserve their own mini-paragraphs, I’ve lumped them together because I look at them as partners in providing incredible service to all merhcants advertising through PriceGrabber. Sean and Graham are responsible for managing all sales and merchant relations on PriceGrabber, arguably the most merhcant friendly shopping comparison engine. Sean has been at PriceGrabber since 2002 and Graham has been at PriceGrabber since 2000.

More about PriceGrabber’s management team can be found here.

HP hired away BestBuy’s Sr. VP of Online Stores & Marketing (yes, more catch up)…
-Sam Taylor
HP named Sam Taylor as Sr. VP of HP Online Sales. Here’s HP’s official release from June 5. “Taylor will lead web, catalog and telephone sales businesses to deliver an enhanced and more personal customer experience to people who choose to research and buy PCs and printing systems directly from HP.” I’ve blogged about Sam’s presentations at Shop.org in Vegas (9/2005) and eTail in Palm Springs (2/2006). I’ve always been impressed with BestBuy, so I think it’s a coup for HP to bring Sam aboard. Hope he’ll be working with Paul O’Brien, one of HP’s Interactive Marketing stars.

Smarter.com…
-Steve Neufer
Steve joins Smarter as the VP Content Operations. He was formerly at Shopzilla where he served as Sr. Director of Inventory (Content) Operations. Steve worked at Shopzilla for just over five years. Before Shopzilla, he worked for Intel’s App Server Division for a short period.
