I just checked out the Become website and it has some good ideas. Great post, makes me look at the upcoming shopping season differently.

Brian, great post. What would be extremely useful would be a chart outlining the new CPC rates in each category for each CSE.

Afreydin, yes SDC does suck for conversion and drives a ton of traffic (never a good combo) but Pricegrabber is even worse! They have way more partner sites that drive way more crappy traffic. I had some horrendous numbers this Halloween from a large costume retailer on PriceGrabber. They even admitted the problem and ended up refunding over $6000 in clicks from Comcast.com one of their co-brand sites! That was a drop in the bucket compared to what we spent with them in total.

Jon, I feel that Become does a great job all around and I manage many different feeds in different industries. That is a great concept you have to combat the holiday period spikes!

They could go to the next logical step. At Become.com we have realtime bidding (over 1/2 our merchants bid up above ratecard). That way we don’t have to do “seasonal adjustments.” Sure Google and Yahoo! ads get bid up during Q4, but so do our listings, and the degree of increase is based on the market (the forklift folks don’t increase their bids, but the digital camera folks sure do).

Brian,
I couldn’t agree more.

As far as Shopping.com goes, I’d be sorely disappointed if they did a blanket 25% increase rather than by category. Don’t worry though, they made up for it by the worst partner traffic spike I’ve ever seen (2 weeks ago) – 50% increase in cost with same poor conversion.
